Yom Haatzmaut Breakfast
Caulfield Shule Celebrates Yom Ha’atzmaut
“Raise up your voice, raise up your kids and raise up your heads” to support and be proud of Israel was the call to action delivered by Daniel Taub, the former Israeli Ambassador to the United Kingdom at Caulfield Shule’s Yom Ha’atzmaut Breakfast last week.
Nearly 400 guests at the Palladium Room at Crown were treated to inspiring words, uplifting songs and local humour to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel’s 69th birthday.
President of Caulfield Shule, Anthony Raitman added “with the new and refreshing format, the breakfast has maintained its place as a premier event not only for Caulfield Shule but for the community’s Yom Ha’atzmaut celebrations.” We were delighted this year to include some entertainment from the Israeli Jewish film festival, comedian Justine Sless, our Chazzan, Dov Farkas, choir master, Kobi Oved and Mordechai Levin.
Following the breakfast, Ambassador Taub commented on his weekend of Israel celebrations with the shule “Zehava and I were overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality of Caulfield shule and the Melbourne Jewish community, and their deep connection to Israel. It was a genuine pleasure to be able to mark Yom Ha’atzmaut with them”.
Surprising the guests at the breakfast was The Hon. Philip Dalidakis, Minister for
Small Business, Innovation and Trade who presented a cheque for $250,000 from the Community Infrastructure and Cultural Precincts (CICP) program to support the development of a youth centre as part of the Caulfield Shule’s redevelopment plans.
Rabbi Genende described the breakfast as “an event that champions Caulfield Shule as a centre of dynamic Modern Orthodoxy, passionate Zionism and energetic Australian identity. We look out for young and old, the involved and the marginalised and we are proud to contribute to our multicultural, multifaith city….”
Rodney Horin, Chair of the Caulfield Shule Redevelopment project expressed our deep appreciation to the State Government’s contribution to the project acknowledging that the grant “…represents validation for our community and youth centre development and its need in the community”.
Event Chair, Caulfield Shule Board Member Jesse Braunstein was delighted with the success of the event. “We are again grateful to our major sponsor Scott Winton Insurance Brokers, our sponsors Gary Peer, Micro cloud and Tallow Group and our supporters for their commitment to Caulfield Shule and look forward to celebrating Israel’s 70th birthday next year.”
